Sacha  Tuesday March 13, 2012:  I worked in the dispensary at the Policlinica de Chitre. In this section nurses gave injections (e.g.penicillin), took blood pressures, gave nebulizer treatments, and changed wound dressings in four different sections. I was able to give several injections, take manual blood pressures, give nebulizer treatments, and I assisted with stitches removal. The nurse injection procedure differed from the way we practice in the US. In Panama the nurses aspirate before they give injections, they don't wear gloves, and  they wash the skin with plain water before giving injections instead of with alcohol. I was amazed to learn that the female  students are offered HPV vaccinations at 10 years of age at their schools.
