On Wednesday, 3/15/12, we visited an elementary school which
was a small cement school house with two classrooms for 25 children ages
5-12. We set up stations for the kids to
rotate through teaching them different life skills such as proper hand washing,
dental hygiene, proper foods to eat, and respect. The kids had such a great time as did all of
us students. It was such a great
experience and it will be a memory that will last forever. The children were so sweet yet nervous at the
same time because they have never met Americans before. They live in a very small town outside of
Chitre named Las Minas and their school is at the very top of a hill. Their presence
astounded me. I’m so used to rowdy
children and their inability to focus and keep still. The children at the Elementary School were
wonderful. They were quiet and listened,
and they were very respectful. It was interesting
to see the difference between the two cultures and how different they act. They don’t have much but are still able to
dress in uniform and pay attention in school and learn. After the school we went to the beach which
was a blast. It was my first time at the
Pacific Ocean and it was a great way to end the day.
