Blog 3

My last day in Panama was spent at a social security hospital. This hospital was very much like the hospitals that I have been to in the United States. I enjoyed learning the differences in the health care systems and policies between Panama and the United States. I learned about how having social security, insurance or being uninsured differed. I also say that there was a difference in policy between the poly clinic I was at and this hospital. I did vaccinations and immunizations in both health care settings. The hospital used alcohol on the skin before giving a shot, where the clinic used saline. They also used different methods to fine the injection site.

Now that I am back to the states I am excited about getting back into the hospital with my enhanced skills. I feel that being in Panama has increased my cultural competency and skill set. I am very thankful that I had the opportunity to be with this group for this trip. I was taught by fellow students, Panama patients and staff. I feel that this was the best possible community health clinical offered. I am very interested in the community health field and am looking forward to continuing my knowledge and skills.

Thanks Everyone!
